With the year ending, let’s look back at how the ETL scheme has helped businesses and the Public Sector to make greener choices in energy efficient technology during 2024.
Make sure not to miss our two new articles this month. The first is a retrospective of the past year, exploring the ETL’s successes of 2024, including a record number of applications, a new YouTube channel and an updated website. We also look at key industry events and collaborations over the last 12 months.
To round things off, we’ve got a brand new video, with insights from manufacturers at EMEX 2024. Plus, 10 new products have been added to the list.
We wish you a Happy Holiday – and look forward to keeping you up to date on the ETL in 2025.
LATEST UPDATES
Collaborations, partnerships and events in 2024: the highlights
This year saw several exciting key events and partnerships take place, giving us the chance to interact with manufacturers and industry experts and spread the word about the ETL. Our ongoing collaborations with Eurovent Certification and NBS continue to play an important role in the ETL’s pursuit of advancing the UK to Net Zero.
The ETL attended key industry events such as Futurebuild, to help raise awareness of the scheme’s role in boosting sustainable building practices. We also connected with the hospitality sector at Hotel, Restaurant and Catering (HRC), 2024, speaking with manufacturers such as Hobart UK and organisations including the Foodservice Equipment Association (FEA).
2024: New technology, more products and a revamped website
2024 has been a year of growth and progress for the ETL. Momentum for the scheme is high, with a record 60 new product applications, adding not just new products but a new product family – energy efficient non-domestic Showers – to the list. There was also the launch of our redesigned website, developed with user accessibility in mind to make the ETL both easy to navigate and informative for businesses. In addition, we launched a new YouTube channel, including enlightening how-to guides and expert interviews – plus many more new initiatives.
A new YouTube video went live this month, as the ETL team hit the road to connect with industry experts. At EMEX 2024, the Net Zero and energy management expo, Jamie Slowgrove, Managing Director at ebm-papst UK, told us that data is a big trend in the industry, for example to predict how fan equipment will behave in the future, regarding vibrations, noise levels and power consumption.
Showersave adds their first Waste Water Heat Recovery System to ETL
Showersave has listed its QB121-XE Waste Water Heat Recovery System on the ETL. This brand new addition showcases the company’s commitment to providing energy-saving shower solutions for the commercial market. Showersave shared that:
“The Showersave QB121-XE Waste Water Heat Recovery System (WWHRS) conserves energy by reclaiming heat from shower wastewater, reducing hot water demand, CO₂ emissions, and energy costs. It supports building regulation compliance, promotes sustainability, and is the UK’s most efficient double-walled WWHRS.”
ABB lists three new Uninterruptable Power Supply products
ABB has expanded its listings on the ETL adding three new Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) products in an ongoing effort to offer more energy efficient products. These are the MegaFlex 1500, 1250 and 1000. They said:
“MegaFlex DPA™ is designed for critical high-density computing environments across private and public enterprise, as well as data centres for colocation, hosting cloud and tele-communications. The modular UPS is based on ABB’s decentralised parallel architecture (DPA™). This innovative system means every UPS module is practically its own UPS with all the essential functional units needed for independent operation.”
Baxi Air to Water Heat Pumps added
We are delighted that Baxi has added four new Air to Water Heat Pumps to the ETL, a first in this category for the company. Air to water heat pumps are specifically designed to transfer heat from the air outside of a building into a water-based heating system, by means of a refrigerant cycle. The models added are the Baxi Auriga HP 33T, HP 26T, HP 20T and HP 40T.
Victor Manufacturing lists another two new products
Victor Manufacturing has added two new Refrigerated Display Cabinets, following on from the four previous products listed on the ETL earlier this year. These are the MAXI090VDMTECO+ and the MAXI090VDSTECO+. Refrigerated Display Cabinets are specifically designed to store and display chilled and frozen food products in retail. There are lots of different designs, but all allow the customer to view the food in the cabinet, either through an opening in the cabinet or through a transparent door or lid.
GET INVOLVED
Apply to have your product on the ETL
If you’re the manufacturer of an energy efficient product, you can apply to have it listed on the ETL. There are 21 different categories on our product page, including boiler equipment, heat pumps, lighting and refrigeration equipment. For more information about how to get your product listed, please check out our guide on how to apply to the ETL, which includes a video explainer.
Influence the ETL’s future with a New Technology Proposal
You can help to grow and shape the ETL, through a New Technology Proposal (NTP). Did you know that several categories, including Battery Energy Storage were put forward as an NTP? Proposals from manufacturers create more opportunities to get listed and seen by more buyers. Submit your proposal and help expand the ETL’s offering.
Take a look through the ETL where you can browse around 8,000 energy efficient products before making your next purchase – so you can find, compare and save. From Boiler Equipment to Showers and more, the list contains the top 25% of equipment on the market for energy efficiency in their class, independently verified and accredited.
The ETL’s YouTube channel contains how-to videos, explaining how to list your products, as well as explainers on energy efficient technology. You’ll also discover interviews with experts, revealing insights on the latest in the energy-saving industry.
