ETL Spring update: Growth, insights and innovation

As we move into spring, there is a clear sense of momentum across the energy efficiency sector. Organisations are increasingly focused on cost savings while advancing towards their Net Zero commitments. The ETL continues to underpin this progress by providing manufacturers and businesses with the verified data they need to select high performing technology with confidence.

In this issue, we highlight real world impact through our case study collection and a new feature on Prefect Controls, demonstrating how ETL-listed technologies achieve measurable energy and cost savings in practice. We reflect on a year of insights from our Women Driving Change series, which has brought together diverse perspectives from across the industry. We also share news of our streamlined listing route for Packaged Chillers through alignment with Eurovent Certification. And finally, we invite you to help shape the future of the ETL by participating in the latest DESNZ survey.

A total of 23 new products from seven manufacturers have recently been added to the ETL. This includes our first listing within the Efficient White Lighting Units sub technology and new additions to the Air to Water Heat Pumps category, which now features 28 products. These updates continue to expand the range of trusted, energy efficient solutions available to support informed procurement.

LATEST UPDATES

01 PrefectControls_ETL_The Refinery, a purpose-built student accommodation development in Leeds

How Prefect Controls helped Curlew Capital save nearly £70,000

At a student accommodation development in Leeds, high heating demand was driving up costs and energy use. Through the installation of the ETL-listed Irus Building Energy Management System from Prefect Controls, Curlew Capital established a coordinated approach to heating management while gaining greater visibility of room usage. This intervention resulted in a 50% reduction in heating energy consumption, nearly £70,000 in annual savings, and a payback period of just over three years, demonstrating the clear financial and environmental impact of smarter building energy management.

Eurovent Certification alignment: A streamlined route for listing Packaged Chillers

Manufacturers of Packaged Chillers can now utilise a more efficient route to ETL listing through alignment with Eurovent Certification. By using existing Eurovent test reports to verify performance, businesses can reduce administrative duplication and simplify the application process. For specifiers and procurement teams, this coordination ensures easier identification of high performing equipment through the use of independently verified, comparable data.

Help shape the future of the ETL

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) is inviting feedback from manufacturers, purchasers, procurers and specifiers of ETL-listed products. This survey is an opportunity to share your views and help inform how the ETL evolves, ensuring it continues to support the uptake of energy efficient technologies. If your organisation is involved with the ETL, we encourage you to take part. You may have already received an email from Technopolis with a direct link to complete the survey.

Alternatively, you can complete the survey for manufacturers, or for purchasers, procurers or specifiers.

Bumblebee Lighting joins the ETL with Efficient White Lighting Unit

We are pleased to welcome the first product in the Efficient White Lighting Units subcategory with the addition of the Vox Prism. These units comprise a light fitting, light sources and associated control gear, specifically designed to provide high quality, energy efficient illumination. Commenting on the listing, Bumblebee Lighting shared: “The certification of our Vox 600x600mm modular luminaire by the ETL supports our drive for high efficiency luminaires which have been qualified by a third party. This accreditation helps in giving consumers confidence in figures claimed by lighting manufacturers.”

Welcoming Hildebrand to the ETL with advanced Energy Monitoring

The introduction of their 3 Glow Automatic Monitoring and Targeting (aM&T) units marks the arrival of a new manufacturer to the Energy Monitoring category. These sub-metering systems deliver the accurate, accessible energy data required to optimise energy use and support the transition to Net Zero. Hildebrand noted the importance of the accreditation, stating: “Our electricity meters deliver accurate, accessible energy data to help organisations optimise their energy use and bill accurately. Our ETL listing recognises the role advanced metering plays in improving efficiency, enabling flexibility and supporting the transition to net zero. CoP11 certification delivers revenue from solar and battery via direct participation in flexibility markets.”
